History
The first rumours about Laura’s fourth album, Once I Was An Eagle, started rolling in late May 2012, when For Folk’s Sake tweeted about speaking to Laura Marling about her being in the studio. Around that same time Spin.com released an interview which contained some words about album number four, to be finished by the end of the year and focused on simplicity. “I’m not doing [the next record] with a band this time. I just got the urge to keep it really simple”
In early June the new album was told to be released in the beginning of 2013. In a video interview from the Bonnaroo festival Marling re-confirmed that “she is doing [recording the new album] at the moment” and that she is recording in the countryside. Consequence of Sound interview June 7 link
“I’m actually in and out of the studio at the moment, so, realistically, the beginning of next year.”
In an interview with Owl Magazine from mid June, Marling shared that she finished writing the album in mid May, and that she is working once again with Ethan Johns. The album was recorded in the Real World Studios in Bath, UK. She mentioned in a few different interviews in late 2012 and early 2013 that the album was set to be released in February 2013. However, February came and went with no new album or new updates from Laura. On March 8th, Laura revealed the official name and release date of her much-anticipated fourth album as May 27th, 2013.
